“Hello Mr. Wonderful, Said My Premenpausal Lady Parts”

36’x48″ Silk on linen, cotton and metallic floss and thread

Explanation of my spelling of “Premenpausal”: I was thinking about an archetypal female experience. Menopause is an opportunity to “pause” as we rethink what it means to be female, and how we, without the very insistent push from hormones, relate physically to the “men” we love.

Autumn Has Arrived-The Sound of Leaves Crunching Underfoot

Living in the northeast US, I get to truly love autumn! I love the smells, the colors, the cool temperatures and the winds that blow over the hill we live on. I especially the love the sounds of leaves crunching under foot. This piece is based on that sound.

Regarding the black circles, my synesthesia inspired art is always a dance between my mental visual images of sound, and my interior self-talk emotional, or cognitive understanding of what I am experiencing.  Perhaps it is because I am a Gemini that I hold these two tensions, or maybe all syns do this. When I make art, I don’t worry that it is a “photo” of exactly what I “see”/hear, but it is usually some variation of the  remembered pattern of what that sound looks like. I just take the trip, create and not worry about the outcome. As I reflect, I suspect the black circles reference the cyclical seasons, the oncoming apparent death of flowering plants and trees, and the unknowable “Mystery” of death.

“Air Conditioning and a Cold Drink When it is 94 in the Sun”

Ar conditioning and a cold drink when its 94 in the sun framed.jpg

I just returned from an hour of sitting in the sun at our local lake beach, visiting with neighbors, enjoying the play of oh so many 6 to 10 year olds, and just getting toooooo hot.  Came into my wonderfully air conditioned home, got a glass of cold water with ice cubes and started to draw and voila………………………………

Noche Oscura – The Languor in the Dark Night of the Soul

Remembering my friends Adam Lee and Jason Mejia

“There you go, swimming deeper into Mystery.  Here I remain only seeing where you used to be…….Gone from Mystery into Mystery. Gone from daylight into night. Another step deeper into darkness, closer to the light.”  Bruce Cockburn

Night Time Echoes

My reflection on 2016.      This is a graphic interpretation of the ways I see time.   The rectilinear lines and boxes represent days and months.  As part of my synesthesia, this is how time looks.   Each row is a month, the days are individual boxes. The circles are the broadly defined significant experiences I have had over the last year, and the ripples are what resonates from those experiences moving into the future. The future is behind these images in the center. I cannot as yet see how things will play out. It is in these colors as I was initially seeing this with my eyes open in a darkened room prior to its creation: a night time echo of my experiences in 2016.

“I’d Rather Be Woven” Geri’s Flag

Flag colored slice all my peeps 5x5 -.jpg 8.5″x 11″ Hahnemuhle Fine Photo Rag Paper, archival inks

The 4th of July is nearly here, and I was thinking about flags and what mine might look like. As a 71-year-old person, perhaps I spend more time than I used to, reflecting on what I believe is important.

What I know is that I take delight in knowing so many different flavors, textures and colors of the humans that are woven into my life. Many of my online art entries are responded to by you who live not only all over America, but also in Italy, France, Germany, Norway, England, Australia and Japan. Many of you I know as musicians, composers and artists, whose work resonates with me, and in whom I take pleasure, even though we have never met in person. Quite a few of you I have known for less than five years, and many are under the age of 30. Some I have known since my childhood in Vineland, NJ, my past employment, college experiences or some are family members or friends of family members whom I have found to be especially shiny.

I feel exceptionally blessed!!! This is what I was thinking when creating this “Flag”. It isn’t my most awesome drawing as a piece of art, but it is certainly one I delighted in creating as I thought about the beauty of you all, and your unique unrepeatable gifts to my personal history. Thanks for being!
